ST. David Thompson Jersey . PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Detroit slugger Miguel Cabreras 10th inning at-bat against Tampa Bay closer Fernando Rodney overshadowed the Rays comeback victory. Yunel Escobar had an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Rays rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Tigers on Saturday night. But most of the attention after the game centred on Cabrera yelling at the Tampa Bay dugout after he struck out against Rodney. The Rays right-hander threw an in-tight and up pitch to back Cabrera off the plate during the at-bat. "I dont know what hes saying," Rodney said. "Im trying to do my job. You have to pitch inside sometimes. You have to pitch inside, outside, everywhere. You dont want to hit nobody because the game is on the line. "Thats what I got on my mind, try to move (him) a little bit because the guy is a dangerous hitter." Cabrera declined to comment about the confrontation, but Tigers manager Jim Leyland talked about it in a strong way. "I dont care about throwing inside, but I dont like it up there, and we will not tolerate that," Leyland said. "Im not accusing anybody of anything but we wont tolerate that. If youre going to just rare back and throw it, you cant throw it there. Thatll cause a lot of problems for people. Thats not a good idea. Thats not acceptable. "We lost a tough game. They earned the win, they got the win, and OK, more power to them, but throwing in that area is not acceptable, and somebody pays the price for that throughout baseball. Thats just the way baseball is. Thats not free. Theres no free lunch. That wont be tolerated. You can take that to the bank" Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said he had no idea why Cabrera was upset. "Youd have to ask him why," Maddon said. "I was kind of surprised, actually." Rodney (3-2) threw two scoreless innings for the win Cabrera went 1 for 4 with a walk, but his major league-leading batting average dropped two points to .375. He has a 14-game hitting streak. James Loney had a one-out single in the 10th off Bruce Rondon (0-1). Pinch-runner Sam Fuld went to second on Wil Myers single, and after Luke Scott struck out, both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Escobar won it for the Rays with a line drive that sailed over the head of centre fielder Austin Jackson. "Im very happy that I was able to help the team win," Escobar said through an interpreter. Scott tied it at 3 on a solo homer with one out in the eighth off Tigers starter Justin Verlander, who allowed three runs, nine hits and four walks during a season-high eight innings. Verlander is winless in his last four starts. "This is the game weve talked about that we have to start winning, and we won it tonight against a really good team," Maddon said. Rays slugger Evan Longoria was out of the starting lineup for the first time this season due to a sore right foot. The third baseman, who left Friday nights game, is also expected to sit out on Sunday against the Tigers. Jackson hit an opposite-field solo homer to right, and Jhonny Peralta had a two-run single off Chris Archer that put the Tigers ahead 3-0 in the third. Archer gave up three runs, five hits, three walks and had three strikeouts in five innings. Loney had an RBI single during the fifth to get the Rays within 3-2. Verlander avoided further damage by getting a double-play grounder from rookie Myers with two on and one out. Loney grounded into a double play with runners on the corners and one out in the seventh. Myers flied out with two runners on to end the first. Tampa Bays Desmond Jennings tripled and scored on Ben Zobrists grounder in the third. Jennings, playing in centre, was charged with an error in the eighth, which snapped a streak of 262 games in the outfield without a miscue. NOTES: Detroit RHP Anibal Sanchez (right shoulder strain) will pitch Monday in Florida for either Class A Lakeland or the rookie level Gulf Coast League Tigers. ... Loney extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a single in the first. ... The Rays recalled INF Ryan Roberts from Triple-A Durham and optioned RHP Alex Colome to the International League club. ... Home plate umpire Dan Iassogna remained in the game after he appeared to get hit near the right wrist by a pitch from Rodney in the ninth that partially deflected off C Jose Molinas glove. MADRID, Spain -- Atletico Madrid finally got the better of Spanish rival Barcelona on Wednesday as Kokes early goal guided his team to a 1-0 win and into the Champions League semifinals with a 2-1 aggregate victory. Adrian Lopez filled in for injured striker Diego Costa and created the fifth-minute goal after hitting the post, as the Atletico forward headed an ensuing cross on to Koke to fire home. The boisterous atmosphere at the Vicente Calderon Stadium unsettled Barcelona early on, and Atletico striker David Villa hit the woodwork twice within the opening 20 minutes. Barcelona dug in but produced few tangible scoring chances apart from a pair of first-half misses by Lionel Messi. Atletico, which leads Barcelona by one point in the league, reached the last four of Europes top competition for the first time since 1974. The teams had played four previous games this season which all ended in draws, but Atleticos breakthrough kept Barcelona from the semifinals for the first time in seven seasons. "We just have to keep working hard and stay calm because we still havent won anything," said Atletico coach Diego Simeone, whose team will face either crosstown rival Real Madrid, Chelsea, or Bayern Munich in a two-legged semifinal. Bayern beat Manchester United 3-1 on Wednesday to eliminate the English champions 4-2 overall. Adrian replaced Costa after Atleticos star striker failed to recover from a hamstring injury and the little-used forward immediately made a mark by rocketing a shot off the near post just before the opening goal. Adrian eventually headed the ball back across the area for Koke to score from close range to the delight of the capacity crowd. Atletico, feeding off the roar of its home supporters, had Barcelona consistently on the back foot early on and Villa found the post in the 11th-minute. Barcelona controlled possession but Atletico was dangerous on the counter as Villa fired on the run over goalkeeper Jose Manuel Pinto but off the crossbar -- the teaams third touch of the woodwork. Vin Baker Jersey. Messi had Barcelonas lone scoring chances of the first half as he headed Dani Alves cross past the near post in the 13th before firing wide past the opposite post near the break after Neymars quick footwork created the chance inside the area. Barcelona took control from the restart as Atletico hung back, with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois doing well to poke the ball away at Messis feet as he darted through the area and then recover in time to ensure the ball was deflected over goal in the ensuing scramble. "There was a big difference between one team and another early on. We couldnt string together four or five passes like we needed to," Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino said. "If we had managed to equalize we might have been able to play the game we wanted." Adrian was taken off to a rousing ovation in the 61st and replaced by Diego Ribas, who scored Atleticos goal in the 1-1 draw in the first leg. Minutes later, Pinto was diving to save from the Brazilian on a counterattack before Atleticos penalty appeals were waved off when Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano tripped up Villa inside the area. Villa and Gabi Fernandez led another counter in the 70th, only for Pinto to kick out Gabis weak shot. Barcelona failed to muster up anything more and Pinto had to make a late save on Villa to keep it close, but the Catalans could not break through the hosts tight defence. "I thought we deserved the draw," Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez said, despite his team managing just five attempts on goal to Atleticos nine. "The game got away from us." After walking off the pitch to loud cheers, the Atletico players re-emerged again to celebrate a memorable victory with the nearly 50,000 fans. "The five games (between Atletico and Barcelona this season) all turned out nearly the same way, there werent any major differences except there was a clear winner this time," Martino said. ' ' '
