ANAHEIM, Calif. Fake Yeezy Boost 350 V2 . -- The playoff-bound Oakland Athletics hadnt lost consecutive games in a month while pushing for the majors best record. Then they ran into Jered Weaver and the Los Angeles Angels, who relished a chance to slow the As roll into October. Weaver pitched seven innings of five-hit ball, Josh Hamilton drove in two runs, and the Angels did a bit more damage to Oaklands home-field playoff hopes with a 3-1 victory Wednesday. Dan Straily (10-8) allowed seven hits while pitching into the seventh inning of his first loss since Aug. 17 for the As (94-65), who began the day trailing Boston by one game for the best record in baseball. The Red Sox play at Colorado later Wednesday. The two-time AL West champion As had the unfortunate luck to face the Angels during the best stretch of their big-budget rivals disappointing season. Oakland, which hadnt lost back-to-back games since Aug. 20-23, lost four of six over the past two weeks to the Angels. "This is a good division," said Coco Crisp, who scored the As only run. "The Angels are obviously one of the premier teams along with Texas, and weve come along and done a good job ourselves. So it is fun playing in this division against this calibre of teams, but it definitely makes it tougher." Oakland usually has trouble with Weaver, who was 7-1 with an 0.84 ERA in his previous 10 starts against the As. His personal string of 29 2-3 consecutive scoreless innings against the As ended in the sixth with Jed Lowries sacrifice fly, but Weaver finished strong before Dane De La Rosa and Ernesto Frieri -- who got his 37th save -- finished off Oakland. Straily struck out five, couldnt quite match Weaver despite another strong start. Los Angeles scored two unearned runs in the fifth in a rally catalyzed by first baseman Daric Bartons error. Straily chalked it up to experience for next months playoff tests. "Obviously its not the end result we were looking for, but I threw a lot of good pitches today," Straily said. "I threw a lot more changeups and curveballs than I had been, so there were a few positives from that." After scoring 49 runs in a five-game barrage ending Monday, Oakland managed just 10 hits in the past two games, including Jason Vargas four-hit gem for the Angels on Tuesday. The As have a day off Thursday before finishing the regular season in Seattle. Erick Aybar had three hits in the Angels final home game of their disappointing season. Los Angeles is unbeaten in its past 10 series while winning 23 of the past 32 games. Weaver (11-8) finished his season impressively after missing last weeks scheduled start with tightness in his right forearm. The Angels veteran right-hander missed nearly two months of the early season with a broken bone in his arm. He bounced back with a 10-4 record since July 2 to become only the third pitcher in AL history to have 10 wins and a winning record in each of his first eight seasons, joining Addie Joss and Andy Pettitte. "Obviously were not really playing for much right now, but we still want to go out and give them hell," Weaver said. "It was nice to be able to finish strong. Its kind of bittersweet. We wish we were still playing (next week). Thats the goal." Mike Trout wasnt in the Angels lineup for their home finale. The star outfielder is in a 9-for-52 slump over the past 15 games, seriously endangering his chances of picking up the final 13 hits necessary to reach 200 on the season. Aybar, who got a rare day off Tuesday, singled and scored the games first run in the fourth inning on Hamiltons grounder. Los Angeles added two in the fifth with a lengthy one-hit rally that included Chris Iannetta getting thrown out at the plate before Aybar and Hamilton singled in runs. Hamilton, the disappointing $125 million outfielder, had two hits to boost his average to a season-high .248. He also stole a base, just his fourth of the season, in the eighth. "The biggest thing was how we finished the season," Hamilton said. "We fought the last month-and-a-half, and played the way were capable of playing." Weaver allowed just two hits in the first five innings, and had retired nine straight before Crisp singled to lead off the sixth and scored on Lowries fly. Weaver stranded two runners by getting Josh Reddick to fly out, and Oakland had just one more baserunner in the final three innings. NOTES: Los Angeles finishes its season with four games at Texas. It was the start of one nice night for the goalie and the Minnesota Wild. SOCHI, Russia -- IOC President Thomas Bach accused world leaders Tuesday of using the Sochi Olympics as a political platform "on the backs of the athletes," and of snubbing the games without even being invited. Three days before the opening of Russias first Winter Games, Bach used a hard-hitting speech to call out politicians for using the Olympics to make an "ostentatious gesture" serving their own agendas. Without naming any individuals, Bachs comments appeared directed at President Barack Obama and European politicians who have taken stands against Russias law banning gay "propaganda" among minors. The Olympics, Bach said, should not be "used as a stage for political dissent or for trying to score points in internal or external political contests." "Have the courage to address your disagreements in a peaceful direct political dialogue and not on the backs of the athletes," he said at a ceremony attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin. "People have a very good understanding of what it really means to single out the Olympic Games to make an ostentatious gesture which allegedly costs nothing but produces international headlines. "In the extreme, we had to see a few politicians whose contributions to the fight for a good cause consisted of publicly declining invitations they had not even received." The buildup to the Olympics has been overshadowed by Western criticism of the anti-gay law and Russias record on human rights and other issues, making Sochi among the most politically charged games in years. Obama and key European leaders are shunning the Olympics. Obama, in a clear message against the anti-gay laws, has sent a delegation to Sochi made up of three openly gay athletes -- tennis great Billie Jean King, 2006 Olympic hockey medallist Caitlin Cahow and figure skater Brian Boitano. For the first time since 2000, the U.S. delegation to an Olympics will not include a president, vice-president or first lady. Former Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano leads the delegation. German President Joachim GGauck and French President Francois Hollande are also not coming to Sochi. Fake Yeezys 2019. Neither is British Prime Minister David Cameron. Bach reiterated again that Putin had given the IOC assurances that the Olympic Charter would be upheld during the games and that homosexuals would not be discriminated against. Bach said Olympic values stand against any form of discrimination, including on grounds of sexual orientation. But he stressed the IOC must be "politically neutral without being apolitical" and that athletes must not use the Olympic Village and venues for "political demonstrations." The IOC has come under criticism for not doing more to fight the anti-gay law, but Bach said the committee was a sports organization with limited responsibilities. "We are not a supra-national government," he said. "We are not a superior world-parliament. We do not have a mandate to impose measures on sovereign states." Bachs speech was delivered at a ceremony marking the opening of the IOCs three-day session, or general assembly, ahead of the games. The Germans sharp comments marked a strong contrast with the relatively anodyne, diplomatic speeches of his predecessor, Jacques Rogge. Bach, winner of a fencing gold medal at the 1972 Olympics, was elected in September to succeed Rogge, who served for 12 years. Bach acknowledged there had been "a lot of skepticism in and outside the IOC" when Sochi was awarded the Olympics in 2007. "Now, seven years later, we can see that Sochi, that Russia has delivered," he said. Putin lauded the IOCs decision to bring the games to the Black Sea resort. "We realize what a difficult decision this was to hold the games in a city that barely had 10 to 15 per cent of the necessary infrastructure," he said. "You believed in us, you believed in the Russian character which can overcome all difficulties." "In the space of five years," Putin added, "we built world-class sports venues and city infrastructure that normally takes decades to build." ' ' '
